Kalamazoo Uber driver picked up fares between killings

At least six people have been killed in a shooting rampage in Kalamazoo, Michigan last Sunday. The suspect, Jason Brian Dalton, a 45-year-old man, was an Uber driver who picked up and dropped off passengers between shootings. According to a source who is not authorized to talk to media, investigators believe Jason Brian Dalton was even looking for fares after the final shooting of a nearly seven-hour killing rampage.

The incident started About 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20 when Police responded to the Meadows Townhomes complex, located on Kalamazoo's Northeast Side at 5066 Meadows Blvd., on reports of a woman shot multiple times. Police said she was shot four times in the parking lot. Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeffrey Getting said the woman -- who was with her three children -- is in serious condition but expected to survive.

The victims include Tyler Smith, 17, a high school senior at Mattawan High School in Van Buren County, just west of Kalamazoo County. He and his father, Richard Smith,53, were looking at cars at a dealership when they were both killed in the shooting rampage Saturday night 4 hours after the first shooting.

Minutes later, at around 10:24, 4 women were killed in the parking lot of a Cracker Barrel restaurant. They are Mary Lou Nye, 62, the driver of a minivan parked in a Cracker Barrel restaurant parking lot when she was shot and killed. In the same car with them are

Mary Jo Nye, believed to be Mary Jo Nye sister in law,

Barbara Hawthorne, 68, Dorothy Brown, 74 and a 14-year-old girl riding in the Chevrolet's front passenger seat. The girl was initially thought to have been killed as well but is now listed in critical condition, according to the state police.

The suspect was taken into police custody at 12:40 a.m. Sunday at Ransom and Porter streets in downtown Kalamazoo. As for now, the motive is still unknown.
