Oculus Rift Release Date: Is It Really Coming This March? HTC Vive The Better Option?

It has been previously reported that the Oculus Rift, the hyped virtual reality headset, will have the release date of Mar. 28, 2016. Pre-orders have been opened since January, yet there have been rumors that delivery might be delayed since some orders have been cancelled.

Oculus Rift is pegged at a hefty $599, but this price seems affordable when compared to a new competitor, HTC Vive, which will be in retail for $799. Now that Oculus Rift isn't officially out in the market yet, tech aficionados say that its HTC counterpart is giving the Oculus Rift a run for its money - making it worth its price.

Reviewers note that the HTC Vive's edge over the Oculus Rift is its level of immersion that the VR headset as well as the bundled Xbox controllers provides. Overall, when compared to the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive provides a deeper sense of immersion, as a user could control their movements in virtual better via controllers. The HTC Vive will be released on April 2016.

There has also been a new report saying that Oculus has cancelled some pre-orders, which has alarmed those who made an effort to make one. The company has made an official statement regarding the matter:

"A small number of pre-orders were unable to be processed and as a result were canceled. Customers can contact support if they have a question about their order."

However, this was merely prompted by a small incident, as there were quite a number of orders that weren't eligible for delivery and there were some orders that were misrepresented. With this said, some of those who pre-ordered came forward and said that theirs was cancelled as well even if they followed all the instructions and provided all the needed information.

Orders for the Oculus Rift will roll out late next month to more than 20 countries worldwide.
