This is the perfect scenario to use the expression "models are not perfect." Victoria's Secret Model Cara Delevingne has written for Time magazine to tell the world about her experiences when she was starting out her modeling career.
Cara Delevingne's essay in Time starts by sharing her modelling beginnings at 16 years old. She was only 5'8" at that time which made her shorter compared to other aspiring models of her age. But she never gave up. Her beginnings were difficult as she strived to be accepted by the fashion world. She wanted to put her abilities first before her physical appearance.
Soon enough, she surrendered to the industry's approval process. Everything she did had to be validated which in turn made her need to be validated by everyone. "As a result, I lost sight of myself and what it meant to be happy, what it meant to be successful," Cara wrote.
Her essay went on to say that she worked so hard to make people happy but eventually she realized that she herself wasn't happy. Getting other people's approval became her priority over herself. Though she explained that her career is important, she added that "It's not the most important. Of course I was proud of my accomplishments, but I wasn't genuinely happy."
Her write-up served as an important reminder for everybody. Somehow, Cara Delevingne's written work circled around the same thought as Kim Kardashian's NSFW selfie essay, in celebration of International Women's Day.
