Instagram Soon To Become A Little More Like Facebook With Algorithmic Feed

On Tuesday, Instagram declared its plans to follow the footsteps of Facebook to implement an algorithmic feed, which a user's timeline can be viewed in order instead of viewing a post in reverse chronological order.

Instagram's blog post stated, "You may be surprised to learn that people miss on average 70 percent of their feeds. As Instagram has grown, it's become harder to keep up with all the photos and videos people share. This means you often don't see the posts you might care about the most. To improve your experience, your feed will soon be ordered to show the moments we believe you will care about the most." Explaining that the company's move is believed to prioritize a few posts over others might be appealing to users.

However, Instagram hasn't mentioned to where the data for these algorithms would come from such as a user's interest and relationships with other users. It is likely that a few information will appear from corporate accounts from Facebook that already offers Instagram with user data for targeted ads.

Facebook has completely left the service run on its own since Instagram's acquisition in 2012, even though both industries resembled in community guidelines and advertising services.

Instagram will start trialing the transformation with a "single-digit-percentage" before finalizing the complete rollout. Although the company didn't make it clear to users to when the change will be applied to their accounts, only that it will commence testing the latest orders on less than 10% of its users to see if they will be able to settle on the new timeline.
