Before he became the Tom Hiddleston that we've grown to love, the actor had to make steely decisions back then, according to an article by Mirror.co.uk posted on Wednesday.
Thor and Avengers star Hiddleston, 35, might be tipped as the next James Bond, he also had his fair share of rough patches to get where he is today. He even mentioned ditching his best friend's wedding for the chance of a starring role. He referred to his pal's wedding as something he would not miss even if Steven Spielberg himself called him. Spielberg actually did call, and Hiddleston wasn't able to hold on to his promise of being there at the wedding.
"We fell out really badly," Hiddleston stated. "It's OK now. He read me the riot act and then we went out and got slammed." He also defended himself by explaining how he had been a long-time Spielberg fan ever since he was a kid. "I grew up on Spielberg films. Before the age of 10, I must have seen 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' 50 times."
He also shared how he sort of felt hopeless seeing Eddie Redmayne making movies with Angelina Jolie, and how he thought it wasn't going to happen for me and it might never will. But despite seeing his peers rise to fame even before he did, Hiddleston didn't lack ambition. "I'd been acting for four years and seen some of my contemporaries rocketing to immediate success. Gemma Arterton, two years below me at RADA, was suddenly the great hope of British acting while I was grinding away at the theatre. Eddie Redmayne was off making movies with Angelina Jolie. I thought that if it hasn't happened for me, maybe it never will."
Hiddleston also told mirror.co.uk that acting was a way for him to cope up with what he was going through while his parents were divorcing. "I think I started acting because I found being away at school while my parents were divorcing really distressing. I was really quite upset, and probably very sad and vulnerable and angry. Acting presented a way of expelling those feelings in a safe place."
