Steam Releases Atari Vault With 100 Classic Games On PC

Steam announced back in January a bundle of 100 classic games dating back from the 70's and 80's that is now available on the online gaming platform under the name Atari Vault for Windows PC's and laptops.

The collection of 100 games includes a throwback from the original Atari 2600 such as Asteroids, Centipede, Missile Command, Tempest and Warlords. All the titles of the game are much like Atari itself, where the game can be selected through 3 dimensional arcade machines as well as archives that displays 3 dimensional Atari VCS/2600 original packaging, which gaming enthusiast still find the games appealing.

Steam's archive appears in a complete updated UI with a retro look to make efficient title browsing. Steam highlighted the gameplay of the latest offer of its leaderboards, where players all over the world can participate in a multiplayer option with Atari Vault using a Steam controller, replacing the trackball with the touch trackpad.

On March 24, CEO of Atari Fred Chesnais issued an official statement on the company's behalf saying, "Atari Vault grants convenient access to some of the most memorable titles in gaming history, and in delivering these games in their original state, it is introducing a new generation of gamers to some of the very first video games. It is our hope that the same excitement people experienced in the arcades and in their homes when these titles were first introduced can now be embraced again, and that newcomers can discover what made these titles so iconic."

Atari Vault can now be purchased on Steam for $16.99 with 15% sale as an additional bonus. Naturally, the bundle carries minimal hardware and software requirements, so Windows 7 and above should allow gamers to experience the 8-bit classics.
