A Clinical Psychologist Shares Tips On Becoming More Mindful

With mindfulness, you practice to be calm and peaceful. You can establish yourself in the present order to be able to touch the wonders of life that can be touched the very moment they are available. In order to save the planet, we collectively need enlightenment. Deepak Chopra says that in order to be a good listener, one must have a little bit of attention to others and mindfulness which would help cultivate emotional nurturing and engagement. Here are tips to maximize this very moment, according to Ivanka Trump.

1. Watch your thoughts

"The goal is a practice I call 'thought watching'. Watch your thoughts in much the same way you watch the cars drive by, as you sit on your front porch. There's a red Buick, a black Cadillac, and look at that, a grey Honda Accord. Watch them. There's no need to jump into the passenger seat and go for a ride. The same goes for your thoughts. Watch them pass - no jumping in, no judgment, no probem," Trump writes.

2. Focus on here and now

In order to get present, you must use your senses - sight, sound, touch, taste and smell.  Instead of focusing on things that haven't occurred yet, get present and awaken to now.

3. Accept what is

Being frustrated about something is totally normal. Instead, condition yourself on becoming comfortable with being uncomfortable. Frustration, in the words of Trump, won't kill you.

4. Set aside mindful time

According to Trump, you should remember to focus on your breathing, feel what it's like to be in your body and let the thoughts pass by like cars.

5. Take breaks to breathe

"Being a psychologist, I have the benefit of booking every hour but working on 50-minute increments, allowing several minutes to write my note on each patient, take a minute to breathe, let go of the last session, and ready myself for the person walking through the door next," Trump says.
