Burnt Out At Work? Former McKinsey Partner Shares Techniques That Will Help You Energize

Caroline Webb, a former McKinsey partner, shared her techniques on how to stop feeling sorry for yourself and learn the easy ways to overcome burnout at the office instead, Business Insider reported.

The Sevenshift CEO and McKinsey senior adviser wrote a book called "How to Have a Good Day" which is a collection of career best practices that she has learned in the 16 years that she spent as a consultant. Below is the list of techniques that will help energize you when you're feeling burnt out at work:

1. Think about what you're grateful for

Webb recommends the usage of an exercise called "three good things", which means taking a moment to acknowledge three of the things in our life which you are most thankful for. As a result, you will feel better even if the things that you've enumerated aren't that major.

2. Do a random act of kindness

Martin E. P. Seligman of the University of Pennsylvania figured that "doing kindness produces the single most reliable momentary increase in well-being of any exercise we have tested." Step outside of yourself to help other people upon feeling burnt out. Even just the littlest things like complimenting your co-worker's performance, it will make a big difference.

3. Find something interesting in even the most mundane situations

Webb wrote that your approach doesn't have to be subversive. Learn how to become more engaged in your tasks by looking at the positive side of things.

4. Give yourself a quick win

Webb recommends you build "quick wins" into your schedule. You'll immediately pick up momentum upon taking immediate action by taking what you thought was the smallest step.

5. Make time for connecting with others

If you notice that you're already zoning out in front of your computer, take five minutes or more of your time to go get a cup of coffee and engage yourself in a conversation with an available co-worker.
