States from all over the USA is engaging their consumers with a tax-free weekend. States participating include Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.

Some of the more aggressive states are making exceptions and elongating the weekend for certain items. Connecticut, Maryland, Missouri, and Virginia have even extended the items for a whole week long tax free weekend this year.

States that are participating in the tax free weekend this August include Alabama (Aug 2-4), Arkansas (Aug 3-4), Connecticut (Aug 18-24), Florida (Aug 2-4), Georgia (Aug 9-10), Iowa (Aug 2-3), Louisiana (Aug 2-3), Maryland (Aug 11-17), Missouri (Aug 2-4), New Mexico (Aug 2-4), North Carolina (Aug 2-4), Oklahoma (Aug 2-4), South Carolina (Aug 2-4), Tennessee (Aug 2-4), Texas (Aug 9-11), and Virginia (Aug 2-4). Other states have selected to do the tax free weekend in another state.

Items available for the excise free holiday generally include school supplies, clothing, and computers, with price limits set on each. Generally, clothing priced under $100 would be sales tax exempt, while supplies less than $50 and computers priced less than $750 would also have the ability to gain tax exemption. However, limitation rules are different state by state and would need to be checked with the state government's tax department to make sure that the items would qualify.

If you would like to buy an expensive computer and want to get sales tax exemption, go and visit Missouri or North Carolina, which set the price limit at $3,500.

For expensive clothing, you can go to Connecticut, which sets the limit at $300 instead of $100 in most other states.
