Miss Grand International Crowns Miss Indonesia; Crowd Booed Candidates with Trump Votes

Indonesia's Ariska Putri Pertiwi has already been crowned the Miss Grand International 2016 at the Westgate International Theater in Las Vegas, October 25, but the reactions to the pageant's controversial question and answer portion has yet to die down.

As broadcasted live earlier through MGI's Facebook account, with only five contestants left, all were asked, "If you had to choose one of these two people to help you stop the war and violence, who will you choose between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton and why?"

The Republican and Democrat candidates have created much clamor globally as the Election Day in the United States comes closer.

The crowd and of course, the netizens, were shocked with the candidate's answers. First on the microphone was Ms. Puerto Rico-Madison Anderson, who cheerfully chose Democratic Party's Hillary Clinton. Anderson said, "If I had to choose one person, I would choose Hillary Clinton. She has dedicated her whole life for this cause. I believe in girl power. I'm here today representing women around the world. I am diversity. And I believe she embodies those qualities. I think she would be the amazing woman president, for the first time in the United States of America."

Ms. Thailand Supaporn Malisorn and the winner, Ms. Indonesia also chose the same candidate. Ms. Thailand pointed out, "Because she's a lady same as me and she's so kind and friendly. And the most important, she is my inspiration and also I love her." Meanwhile, Ms. Indonesia explained, "Because I know she's a very smart woman, independent woman, and brave woman. That's why I will choose her to walk together with me...And I ask the people to join with us to stop the war and violence."

The three candidates received applause and cheer from the crowd as opposed to the other two candidates who chose Republican Party's Donald Trump.

Surprisingly, Ms. USA Michelle León chose Trump over Clinton as well as Philippine's Nicole Cordoves. Both received boos from the audience but neither allowed these to affect their answers.

Leon answered, "Believe it or not, I would choose Donald Trump. Why? Because the same way that we (interrupted by boos) the same way that we are all here to change the minds of people, to share our passion of stop (sic) the war and violence is the same way I will share my passion with him. And the same power that he has to stand up for what he believes in, is how I will have him stand up for stop the war and violence and change the lives of people together."

Cordoves even requested the audience to react after her first sentence. She defended her chosen candidate and elaborated, "I would choose Donald Trump to stop the war and violence with me because if we choose him to switch to our side, there won't be war and violence anymore.  I will also make sure that he will read my speeches to stop the war and violence. Because imagine, someone who would bring so much madness and so much emotion from these people, what if we use his voice to actually do good for the world? What if we use that to our advantage?"

Founded in 2013, Miss Grand International is a yearly international female beauty pageant with advocacy: 'Stop the War and Violence'.
