'Doctor Strange' Latest News & Update: Benedict Cumberbatch & Rachel McAdams Hit The Top Spot On The Weekend

The American science fiction film, "Doctor Strange" hit the top spot on its first weekend of release. As reportedly, Benedict Cumberbatch together with his co-star Rachel McAdams dominated the weekend as the film earned a staggering $85 million in North America.

"Doctor Strange" was released on October 20 and just for a short period of time, the said movie hit the top spot. According to the released news, Scott Derrickson's film earned $85 million in North America just this week end. On the other hand, the said sci-fi movie earned $118.7 million overseas and globally, Marvel superhero movie, "Doctor Strange" garnered a total gross of $325 million.

According to RealD, "Doctor Strange" kept the Marvel's entertainment company alive. On a report, there were 14 consecutive films to open in the top spot. On the other hand, it was reported that in North America, 47% of the revenue came from fantasy movies and 3D capability films.

Dave Hollis, Disney executive vice president of distribution said to AP that "Movie theaters exist for a movie like "Doctor Strange," characterizing the film's look as 'something that arrests and totally disrupts what people are expecting to see inside of a movie theater."  Moreover, on his recent interview with Variety, Hollis revealed the reason of "Doctor Strange" success. He said that it was the character's development and particular journey which the movie gave an emphasis on. Moreover, their visually-enchanting filmography also drove success to the blockbuster movie.

Furthermore, the animated DreamWorks film, "Trolls" ranked number two in North America in which the Hollywood awardee celebrity voices including Anna Kendrick, Gwen Stefani and Justin Timberlake featured on the said movie. Elsewhere, there were other Hollywood movies ranked top ten in North America including "Hacksaw Ridge" with $14.8 million; "Tyler Perry's Boo! A Madea Halloween" at $7.8 million; "Inferno" with $6.3 million; "The Accountant" with $6 million; "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back" at $5.6 million; "Ouija: Origin of Evil" at $4 million; "The Girl on the Train" with $2.8 million; and "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" at $2.1 million.
