The official announcement of a Netflix movie adaptation for the famous horror anime series "Death Note" has got every avid fan's attention. Although previous updates have decked the well-known actor Willem Dafoe for the role of key character Ryuk, the latest information reveals the actual scope of his participation in the film.
Contrary to the expectations of most followers, Willem Dafoe will only have a minimal input in presenting the Death God on screen. Producers will only borrow his face for CGI animation while also providing the voice for the renowned demon.
In essence, Willem Dafoe will not be a part of the acting cast. According to the article published by Box Office Buz, the movie adaptation of "Death Note" will stick to the canon anime narrative.
In a related report by ITech Post, the Netflix creators are keen on keeping their vow to make a movie with twice the volume of violence and sex scenes. Such is the essence of casting Adam Wingard as director - the man who responsible for the notoriety of the "Blair Witch Project".
The director also revealed some details that fans should expect - among which to include Nat Wolff from "The Fault in Our Stars" and rapper Keith Standfield for the lead roles. The film will be set in North America, creating a more Western socio-cultural atmosphere than the original Japanese setting.
In the popular anime narrative, "Death Note" tells a story of how an ordinary high school teenager took possession of an otherworldly item - a notebook owned by the Death God named Ryuk. The plot development revolves around the occasional misuse of the aforementioned journal resulting in a mysterious string of deaths being investigated by an intrepid detective.
There are a number of live film versions for "Death Note" already made in Japan. The latest in the list is titled "Death Note: Light Up the New World".
