‘Power Rangers’ Spoilers, Latest News & Update: Biggest Plot Twist In Over Two Decades Reveal Brand-New Ranger

The "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" comic series thrilled its fans in the ninth issue released on Nov. 30, 2016. For the first time in 23 years, "Boom! Studios" introduced a brand-new Power Ranger - and he looks amazing.

All throughout the first eight issues, the Rangers have been in combat against the evil "Black Dragon," who joined forces with villain Rita Repulsa. Kotaku reports that in the final pages of the issue #9, the "Black Dragon" is revealed to be nothing more than a Zord controlled by -- surprise! - the mysterious new Power Ranger.

In a press release issued out by "Boom! Studios," writer Kyle Higgins and artist Hendry Prasetya disclosed tidbits about this new character. Apparently, this "Dark Ranger is a key architect behind the chaos that has plagued the Mighty Morphin team since the launch of the comic book series." In a separate email interview with IGN, Higgins divulged that he spent a lot of time refining the new character's backstory, which is "darker and a bit tragic."

The new Ranger is yet to be named, but one thing's for sure: it closely resembles Tommy and has ties to his former role as a Rita Repulsa's henchman. He carries a dagger similar to the one Tommy carries, and his design includes both elements of the green-and-gold armor of the Green Ranger and the white suit and tiger stripes of the White Ranger - costumes both worn by Tommy.

The identity of the character will be divulged in January in the eleventh issue of the series. The twelfth issue, coming out in February, will tackle the origin of this newest Ranger.

It remains to be seen whether this "Dark Ranger" will end up joining the main team as a protagonist after a stint with the evil forces. It is also unknown whether he will appear in the upcoming film "Power Rangers" in 2017.

Jobs & Hire has previously reported that the new film will revolve around the five teenage outcasts from Angel Grove. It will be released in U.S. theaters on Mar. 24, 2017.
