The "Space Battleship Yamato 2202" anime film has been announced to premiere this coming February 2017. It is confirmed by announcements on its official website. The Fafner EXODUS director Nobuyushi Habara will be taking lead of the project as its director.
According to a report from Wow Japan, Nobuyushi Habara will be working on the motion picture. The motion picture was written by Harutoshi Fukui known for his novel piece Mobile Suit Gundam UC. The son of the previous "Space Battleship Yamato" creator, Shoji Nishizaki and Yoshinobu Nishizaki will be the executive producer of "Space Battleship Yamato 2202."
It has been reported that the younger Nishizaki has revealed that a new "Space Battleship 2199" project is on the works, based on what was revealed it is believed that he was referring to the "Space Battleship 2202." The announcement was reported in the official Yamato Fan Club magazine, Yamato Kouka Nikki: Yamato Crew Premium Fun Club Magazine.
The report concluded with not much detail has been revealed by that time, and will be expecting more details in the future. On the other hand, a report from Anime News Network gives more information about the "Space Battleship Yamato 2202." The upcoming film "Space Battleship Yamato 2202" will be part of a seven-part project theatrical anime project, and the film will start premiering on February 25, 2017.
The "Space Battleship Yamato 2202" film will be screening limitedly for 2 weeks in Japan's 15 theaters prior to engagement, the anime film is also going to start selling its limited edition Blu-ray Disc on the same day of its screening on the theaters. It also reported that the first film of "Space Battleship Yamato 2202" will be getting a concurrent digital release on February 25, 2017 on Amazon Video, Tsutaya TV, Hikari TV, PlayStation Video, bonobo, and Rakuten ShowTime for a price.
