'Uchiage Hanabi/Fireworks' To Receive Anime Film Adaptation

August 18, 2017 will see the premiere of an anime film adaption of the 1993 TV drama “Uchiage Hanabi, Uekara Miruka Shitakara Miruka?” (Fireworks, Should We See It from the Side or the Botton?).

Fans of critically acclaimed Japanese director Shinju Iwai will be delighted to know that his well received television drama is receiving an anime film version by the animation studio Shaft, reports Crunchy Roll. Nobuyuki Takeuchi (“Monogatari,” “Bakuman”) will serve as director and Akiyuki Shinbo (“Puella Magi Madoka Magica”) as general director.

The series, which led to critical acclaim for Japanese director Shinju Iwai back in 1993, is about two male best friends in their elementary years, who fall in love with their female classmate, Nazuna. Unbeknownst to them, the love of their lives will have to transfer to another school due to her parents’ divorce which is not a prospect that she delights in and thus prompts her to run away with one of the boys who wins a swimming competition.

The film is set to be released in the 18th of August next year and stars voice actors Suzu Hirose (“Bakemono ko Ko”) for the lead female role, Nazuna Oikawa; and Masaki Suda as well as Mamoru Miyano for the two lead male roles Normichi Shimada and Yusuke Azumi respectively.

The teaser that was released hinted at the much older ages of the main characters compared to the original drama. It is still unknown if there are any other tweaks that Shaft has done or what they are specifically.

For Shinju Iwai, the drama led him to receiving the New Face Award and New Directors Award, according to Crunchy Roll. In addition to the film adaption, a theatrical version of the production was also made and released last year, August 12.
