Katie Couric Engaged: Financier Boyfriend Proposes In East Hampton Beach; TV Star Says 'Life Is More Fun When You Have Someone In Your Life' [VIDEO & REPORT]

Katie Couric got engaged over Labor Day weekend to her boyfriend for nearly two years, John Molner, on a beach in East Hampton at sunset, Couric's representative told People magazine.

According to New York Daily News, Katie Couric's boyfriend proposed with a ""spectacular diamond" on hand.

"Yes it's true! So touched by all the kind Tweets & warm wishes-thank you!" Couric tweeted on Tuesday, adding, "A great end to the summer & looking fwd to seeing you all Monday [Sept. 9, when Katie premieres its second season]!!"

E! reported earlier that Couric, 56, and Molner, 50, have been dating for nearly two years now.

Couric has been a widow since her husband, Jay Monahan, died of colon cancer in 1998. The couple has two daughters Carrie, 17, and Ellie, 21.

The tv star was reportedly dating several men after her husband died, but said that she couldn't find the right man to settle down with again.

"When the girls were really little, I always imagined I would be modern-day Carol Brady," Couric said to People in 2011. then, she admitted that she had stopped thinking about her love life during that time.

However, in April 2012, Couric admitted publicly that she was seeing Molner.

"He's great. He's from Chicago. I love Midwesterners!" Katie said in an interview in 2012.

"It's actually surprising to me that it has been almost 15 years and I haven't remarried. I think life is more fun when you have someone in your life," Katie told 'More' in January 2013. "I always wanted a father figure for my daughters, but it hasn't worked out that way. I've had long-term relationships, but they haven't turned into life-long partners."

"I used to worry a lot about the future. [But] who knows what it will bring?" she said, adding, "Hopefully it will bring good things."

Before she publicly confirmed her relationship with Molner, Katie was linked to TV producer Tom Werner and to financier Brooks Perlin.
