‘Arrow’ Season 5: Felicity To Seek Revenge For Her Boyfriend’s Death?

The midseason finale of “Arrow” Season 5 featured a few surprising twists that had fans craving to know what happens next in The CW series. Towards the tail end of the hour, Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) was revealed to be alive, while another character didn’t make it through episode 9.

Oliver (Stephen Amell) mistakenly killed Felicity’s (Emily Bett Rickards) boyfriend, Billy (Tyler Ritter), after the Green Arrow thought that he was Prometheus. A stunned Oliver went back to the Arrow cave to tell everyone what happened, and he implored his team to stay away from him, as everyone who gets too close to him gets killed. Diggle comforted Oliver, telling him that all of them are exactly where they want to be—even Felicity, who was seen sobbing after learning her boyfriend’s fate.

"Arrow" Season 7 will go on hiatus for seven weeks before it returns with episode 10. Ahead of the series’ midseason premiere, showrunner Wendy Mericle previewed what becomes of Felicity and Oliver’s relationship after the tragic events of the winter finale, and what Felicity will do when the show returns.

Speaking with TVLine, the showrunner said that Felicity won’t resent her former fiancé for what happened to Billy. “She recognizes the manipulations that have led to this situation,” said Mericle.

Indeed, when Oliver told her that he was the one who shot the police officer with his arrow, Felicity corrected him, saying that it was Prometheus’ fault and not his. The showrunner added that at that moment, Felicity’s heart was broken for Oliver, Billy and herself.

Mericle revealed that when "Arrow" returns for the back half of season 5, Felicity will be targeting Prometheus and that fans will be seeing her in “a darker place.” Does this mean that the mild-mannered tech expert will take it upon herself to seek revenge for her loved one?

The showrunner hinted that Felicity will be making some “morally questionable” choices which will make her draw away from the team. She also teased that viewers will be seeing the character in a whole new light when “Arrow” Season 5 returns.

Apart from seeing a new Felicity, the series is also expected to reveal whether Laurel is truly alive, as previously reported by Jobs & Hire. According to Futon Critic listings, “Arrow” is expected to return with a brand new episode on Jan. 25, 2017.

“Arrow” airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on The CW.
