‘Sherlock’ Season 4 Trailer, Episode Titles, Air Dates: Is Moriarty Really Dead?

The audience’s favorite sociopath detective Sherlock Holmes returns to the crime drama screen for its three years long-awaited series, "Sherlock."

The trailer starts with a dark terrified voice of Sherlock saying "Something's coming. Maybe it's Moriarty, maybe it's not. But something's coming." The mood is tensed throughout the trailer, which is expected as Moffat, the show's frontrunner, teased that "Sherlock" Season 4 would be dark in some ways, but it will be fun and a Sherlock Holmes romp as well.

BBC's "Sherlock" star, Benedict Cumberbatch, told GQ UK that he thinks Season 4 might be the end of the series that he feels like it is the end of an era, Movie Pilot reported. The season goes to a place where it would be difficult to easily follow on, he said. While the "Sherlock" team had made something complete as it is, fans would have to just wait and see if there's going to be another season.

This news sounds sad for "Sherlock" fans, but Freeman and Cumberbatch have movies to work on, such as the "Hobbit" movies for Freeman and "Doctor Strange" for Cumberbatch. "Moriarty, I've come to bargain." Some fans might say.

Speaking about Moriarty, is he dead or alive? Many questions were left unanswered way back Season 3.

Maybe Moriarty just faked his death with an unloaded gun? And that everything might be planned by Sherlock and Moriarty. It seems that Moriarty is just part of Sherlock's split personality, according to Movie Pilot's theories. The video about Moriarty, which was seen at the end of Season 3, may just be made by Mycroft or Sherlock so Sherlock can come back to London. But... Moriarty is dead.

Speculations say that people would still see Moriarty in "Sherlock" Season 4 despite his death. But just through Sherlock's mind. Finally, the last scene in the trailer wherein Sherlock's lips are trembling seemed like something upset him. It was said that only his friends had made him that way, so fans assume that someone is going to die.

Meanwhile, the exciting news is that the upcoming episode titles were already released. The first episode is titled "The Six Thatchers," the second is "The Lying Detective." While the third one is called “The Final Problem," as confirmed by Digital Spy.

"Sherlock" Season 4 Episode 1 "The Six Thatchers" will air on New Year's Day at 3:30 pm EST. Episode 2 "The Lying Detective" will air on Jan. 8 and "The Final Problem" to be released on Jan. 15.

Fans had already related the titles to Arthur Conan Doyle's 20th-century stories. "The Six Thatchers" is probably "The Adventure of the Six Napoleons," while "The Lying Detective" is likely "The Adventure of the Dying Detective" based on Doyle's stories.

Meanwhile, Sherrinford, Smith and Thatcher were names revealed this year at San Diego Comic-Con. How will Sherrinford be placed in the show with fans knowing that it is Doyle’s other name for Sherlock? Jobs & Hire previously reported that Tom Hiddleston might have been cast as the third Holmes brother, Sherrinford.

Lastly, Toby Jones will be cast as one of "Sherlock" Season 4's finest villains, Culverton Smith. He will first appear in "The Dying Detective" wherein Sherlock will pretend to be ill to get Culverton to confess that he infected and killed his nephew with a deathly virus. But how evil will Culverton be as a villain in the series?
