'Star Trek: Discovery' Cast Update: Chris Obi, Shazad Latif, And Mary Chieffo To Play Klingons

CBS digital drama “Star Trek: Discovery” added three new cast members. Chris Obi, Shazad Latif, and Mary Chieffo will join the series as Klingons members.

According to the Variety, Obi will play the part of T'Kuvma. He is the Klingon leader who aims to unite the Klingon houses. While Chieffo will take the role of L'Rell, Klingons ship battle commander. And as for Latif, his character will be Kol, Klingons commanding officer and at the same time T'Kuvma’s protégé.

The drama series is set to introduce new characters seeking new worlds, new civilizations, new ship and a new mission. However, the series will still be living up to the franchise signature of dramatic and contemporary approach.

CNet reported that Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, and Michelle Yeoh were the first cast members announced by CBS. “The Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” star will sit in the captain’s chair as Captain Georgiou of the Starship Shenzhou. Jones will play as Starfleet science officer Lt. Saru while Rapp’s role is Lt. Stamets who is an "astromycologist." CBS did not yet reveal on who will play as the lead star but there are reports coming out that they are eyeing for an African-American or Latina actress.

One interesting thing that the “Star Trek” fans will look forward to in this series is how Klingons in “Discovery” will look like. Based on the original series Klingons look closely similar to humans but in the new films and television enhancements they somewhat have alien features.

Meanwhile, Jobs & Hire shared that the CBS network is taking a huge leap in this “Star Trek” series. The network is well aware that this kind of series is not the usual TV show that people normally watch. It is not certain if the show will be a success.
