K-Cup Soup: The New Food Hybrid Sensation Hitting the Nation [VIDEO & REPORT]

K-Cup Soup: The new Food mashup trend hitting the nation

If you own a Keurig Coffeemaker, then you are going to be able to make more than just coffee.

Think, freshly brewed soup.

Soup giant Campbell's Soup Co. and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. have come together to create a line of "freshly brewed soups," with flavor spin-offs including Homestyle Chicken Broth and Noodle.

Carla Burigatto, spokesperson for Campbell, explains that the soup pods will work exactly like coffee, tea, and hot choco pods-those that pair up with the machine. The pod that goes into the machine produces a cup of flavorful broth, which then goes over a packet of dried pasta and vegetable mix, in the customer's choice of a bowl or a mug.

Several observers have reported their concerns of eventually having their coffee tasting like chicken broth, but representatives from Green Mountain says that the machines would be designed to be self-cleaning, so as to eliminate the problem of chicken soup coffee, or chicken soup tea.

But Why?

According to the news release, the reason behind the K-Cup Soup concept is because of the growing snacking culture in the US, with most citizens snacking multiple times a day. Consumers are also said to be looking for alternative snacking options, for quick snacks that serve as mini-meals and alleviate hunger and cravings without the inconvenience.

Reps say that the product received enthusiasm from consumers during product testing.

Not the First Time

Making soups in coffeemakers is not exactly a revolutionary breakthrough in food culture; Former starving college student and present food enthusiast Max Eddy had previously managed to successfully cook instant ramen where he makes his coffee, and has ended up cooking a plethora of other food in there as well.

K-Cup Soups are expected to hit the markets sometime in 2014.

But the question we beg to ask: Whatever happened to "just add hot water"?
