The season 3 finale of “Younger” featured a lot of twists that do not bode well for Liza’s (Sutton Foster) future. Apart from ruining her own proposal, Liza also made the decision to come clean about her age to Kelsey (Hilary Duff), and when the show returns to TV Land, fans will see how the latter reacts to the knowledge that her closest friend is, in fact, a 40-year-old mom, and not the 26-year-old woman which she claimed to be over the past years.
Speaking with Variety, Duff previewed what fans can expect in "Younger" season 4, saying that she thinks that her character is going to “freak out” after Liza’s stunning revelation.
“I think she’s going to freak out,” said Duff. The actress added that now that the secret is out, Kelsey may or may not go along with it as the deception puts her own career at risk if ever anyone in the office finds out about Liza’s big lie.
“I think it’s going to be really hard for her to accept,” said Duff about Liza’s admission about her real age.
Apart from lying to her friend all this time about her age, Liza also made a book deal behind Kelsey’s back to protect the secret, as an entertainment writer blackmailed her into doing so. Duff said that Liza’s actions could encourage Kelsey to tell their boss, Diana (Miriam Shor), all about it.
Foster spoke with Vulture and echoed Duff’s sentiments, saying that she also thinks that Kelsey won’t respond well to the age reveal in "Younger" Season 4. “I have big fears of how that relationship will change in season 4,” said Foster.
After the "Younger" season finale, Liza will need someone to lean as Josh (Nico Tortorella) broke up with her after he saw her kissing her boss, Charles (Peter Hermann). To make matters worse, Josh was about to propose to Liza before he witnessed her infidelity.
