The Beam Suntory subsidiary in Japan is planning to buy the London's gin microdistillery Sipsmith. Beam Suntory is willing to pay a yet undisclosed sum to get a hold of Sipsmith, and this is due to the rising demand for artisan spirits.
According to BBC News, Sipsmith is one of the hundreds of craft distillers that have been established in UK in recent years. It is expected to boost the export of Beam Suntory. The report also stated that the co-founder of Sipsmith, Sam Galsworthy, said that the firm would continue to take control of its brand and operate from its distillery.
Sam Galsworthy also said that, nothing is going to change about the way they make it, but they expect that they will be taken internationally in such a way that they haven't been able to achieve so far. He also added that they have been given reassurance and they don't want to jeopardize the Sipsmith brand.
Furthermore, the firm stated that they have founded the city's first copper distillery for nearly 200 years. Small batches of spirits are made by hand, and these include London Dry Gin, Sloe Gin, and V.J.O.P (Very Old Junipery Over Proof) Gin.
Beam Suntory is the third largest spirits company worldwide, and it is also the latest company who is trying to cash in on the rising demand for craft spirits and beer. The said deal is aimed in selling products of Sipsmith in markets worldwide alongside other brands including Yamazaki whiskey, Laphroaig Scotch and Courvoisier cognac.
This will also be including markets where Sipsmith had been sold like North America, parts of Europe and Asia, and also new ones such as South and Central America. There are more than two-thirds of Sipsmith's sales that are currently inside the UK.
The deal might be able to match up with the growing demand worldwide for artisan spirits, and through the statement of Sam Galsworthy, Sipsmith is more likely to accept the deal anytime soon. Through the vast selections of distillery worldwide, this is the first time that a huge conglomerate like Beam Suntory made a deal with Sipsmith.
