‘Shadowhunters’ Season 2 Spoilers: Dominic Sherwood Previews Jace’s Troubles In Upcoming Season; Episode 1 Synopsis Revealed

It has been eight months since the season 1 finale of “Shadowhunters,” and fans cannot wait to see what happens next to Clary (Katherine McNamara), Jace (Dominic Sherwood) and the rest of the gang when the show returns to Freeform. The series returns early next year, and as the action picks up where it left off, viewers will see Jace as he reluctantly joins Valentine’s (Alan Van Sprang) army in season 2.

Dominic Sherwood spoke with Entertainment Weekly and previewed what lies ahead for his character in the next installment. Since "Shadowhunters" season 2 picks up only minutes after the finale, Jace will still be with Valentine after the former reluctantly agreed to join the latter’s army. It can be recalled that Valentine threatened to kill Jace’s friends if he doesn’t join him as he starts his world domination.

“Things get worse for Jace before they get better,” said Dominic Sherwood. “He’s struggling with new information that he’s being given by Valentine and really has no support system anymore because his friends aren’t with him, he can’t get to them.” The actor added that as part of Valentine’s army, Jace will feel like a fish out of the water and will be in a spot of trouble at the start of "Shadowhunters" season 2.

As seen in the previous season, Valentine convinced Jace to go with him by saying that he is his father and that Clary is actually his sister. But Jace will eventually learn about Valentine’s deception, as the series, which is based on Cassandra Clare’s “Mortal Instruments” book franchise, is expected to stay true to its source material.

Meanwhile, McNamara told Hollywoodlife that there will be a family reunion at the end of episode 1 which sees Jace, Clary, Valentine, and Jocelyn (Maxim Roy) in a tense situation.

“I’m just saying, the Morgensterns have a lot of issues to work out,” said McNamara.

Episode 1 of season 2 titled “This Guilty Blood” will air on Monday, Jan. 2 at 8 p.m. on Freeform and will see all the chaos at the Institute after Jace left with Valentine. Alec (Matthew Daddario), Isabelle (Emeraude Toubia) and Clary are desperate to find Jace, but their plans go awry with the arrival of Victor Aldertree, who is determined to get the Institute back on track. Meanwhile, Jocelyn has a lot to catch up now that she is awake.
