Siberian Forest Boy Found Living In Wilderness For 16 Years; 'Siberian Mowgli' Left By Parents In Forest Hut?

A Siberian 'forest boy' was found living alone in the wilderness by Russian authorities, Yahoo! reported Tuesday.

Local officials said the Siberian boy spent most of his life living in a forest hut with his parents.

Residents of Belokurikha, a nearby town where the Siberian 'forest boy' was found, told local prosecutors that the now-20-year-old man was born in 1993 and had lived in the wilderness since 1997, after his family decided to leave the busy society and stay in the wilderness for good.

However, his parents left him in May to live alone in the hut, and it was only after the 'forest boy' had asked for help from the nearby village before the summer ended, when he was found by the authorities.

Local Prosecutor Roman Fomin told said the local prosecutor's office was alarmed that the young man may have to spend the Siberian winter in the forest; thus, they appealed in court for the boy's identification documents to be reestablished in order for him to obtain state support.

"I am not sure if he needs all this attention," Fomin said. "He looked normal and healthy, he only spoke slowly, since he doesn't communicate as often as most people."

Fomin also noted that the decision of the boy's family to live in the wilderness was not at all due to religious reasons.

"He was just afraid that he won't survive the winter without his parents," Fomin added. "But maybe they have already come back."

Yahoo! reported that a local woman had brought the Siberian 'forest boy' to the prosecutor's office for fear that he may need some serious help through the cold winter, but the young man apparently left and had gone back to his hut in the deep forest.

The Russian media reportedly dubbed the man 'forest boy' or the 'Siberian Mowgli' taken after Rudyard Kipling's 'The Jungle Book' main character.
