CeeLo Green News & Update: Smartphone Explodes In Singer’s Face; Green Apologizes For Failed Publicity Stunt

On Dec. 17, a CCTV video of CeeLo Green circulated online and caused social media frenzy. The footage showed the musician talking on his phone when the device exploded all of a sudden, rendering the singer unconscious.

Yahoo News reports that the clip, which appeared to be shot from CCTV surveillance, showed the "F--- You" hitmaker in a recording studio. Green appeared to take a call in his mobile phone, which later smoked and exploded against his face. The singer collapsed to the ground and the black-and-white video ended.

It is unknown whether the phone was a Samsung Note 7, but fans were quick to pin the blame on the infamous model. As per Jobs & Hire, it is no secret that Samsung faced its worst debacle when it launched a worldwide replacement - before eventually discontinuing - its flagship phone.

Green set the record straight later in the day and updated the public of his condition. In his Instagram video, the singer explained that the whole incident was a part of a staged stunt that he was doing for a project called "Gnarly Davidson." He then apologized for scaring his fans and assured them that he's okay and will still be releasing new music.

"Truthfully, I'm really upset that anybody had to be emotionally disturbed by what they saw today," Green said. "For everybody that loves me and cares about me, I just want to let y'all know that I'm okay."

Unfortunately for Green, some fans were not sympathetic about his failed publicity stunt. Many criticized the singer for using Samsung's crisis with Galaxy Note 7 to promote his upcoming project. A Twitter user commented, "Really was worried about dude, sad world we living in. Anything now for attention." Another said, "Um...No. It doesn't take hours & hours & hours to tweet 'I'm fine'. Uncool stunt. Not buying - literally!"

It's not the first time Green has figured in social media controversy. In Aug. 2014, Green deactivated his Twitter account after a wave of criticism assaulted him due to his victim-blaming tweets on sexual violence.
