Benedict Cumberbatch Recalls Gunpoint Abduction: Six Armed Men Kidnap Actor And Pals, Drive Them To Unknown Area; 'I Was Scared, Really Scared' [VIDEO & REPORT]

Benedict Cumberbatch opened up about a terrifying incident in which he and some of his friends were abducted by six armed men a decade ago, Yahoo! reported Thursday.

'Sherlock' actor Benedict Cumberbatch, the new cover boy for the Hollywood Reporter's 'New A-List' issue, opened up to the magazine about a terrifying incident where he and some pals were abducted at gunpoint almost ten years ago.

We were in South Africa, in KwaZulu-Natal, this amazing district north of Durban," Cumberbatch told Hollywood Reporter writer Stephen Galloway, adding that the incident happened on the night when he and a pair of friends were driving back to the set of his 2005 miniseries 'To the Ends of the Earth.'

"It was cold, and it was dark. I felt rotten. We were wary because that's a notoriously dangerous place to drive. Then, poof, the front-right tire blows," Cumberbatch said. "So we got the spare, but that meant getting all of our luggage out. We were like sitting ducks, adverts for ... not prosperity necessarily but materialism."

Galloway noted in his article that the actor got teary while describing the succeeding traumatic events, in which six armed men suddenly appeared in front of them as they were trying to change the tire.

Cumberbatch said that the armed figures abducted them and drove them to an unknown area and stopped the car in the middle of nowhere, adding that when he complained about being bound, the men tossed him into the trunk.

"I was scared, really scared," the 'Star Trek Into Darkness' actor said. "I said: 'What are you going to do with us? Are you going to kill us?' I was really worried that I was going to get raped or molested or just tortured or toyed with in some way, some act of control and savagery."

Nevertheless, Cumberbatch felt thankful when the kidnappers surprisingly let him and his friends go, remarking that he developed an appreciation for simply being alive after the traumatic incident.

The actor said that he was also thankful for the kindness a stranger has shown them after they were freed by the captors.

"I looked into this black man's face, and I cried with gratitude," Benedict said. "F--k it. If that's a cliché, I don't care."

The London-born actor, who stars in 'August: Osage County' with Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts as well as in 'The Fifth Estate' where he portrays Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, dished about the rumors that he will be one of the cast in J.J. Abram's upcoming 'Star Wars: Episode VII' film.

"I don't know. Who knows, who knows? Nothing is known of that," Cumberbatch said. "I worked with J.J. [who directed "Star Trek Into Darkness"]. Obviously, he knows. Everyone who wants to be part of that film, they know about."
