In a few days, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will be leaving the White House as the Trump administration begins. On Jan. 20, the popular duo will start to live their lives as citizens, and the whole world is wondering what comes next after their eight years of public service.
In an interview with “60 Minutes” (via Refinery 29), Obama said that he’d like to take a vacation, set up a foundation, and work on his presidential library. He also revealed that he plans to write another book.
The father-of-two said that he plans to do “a little puttering” before going back to teaching.
“I look forward to teaching the occasional class, ‘cause I was a professor,” he said. “I had fun doing it.”
As to where the President could possibly teach, The Telegraph reports that it’s possible that students in several Ivy League schools will get to see Obama as a professor. It was pointed out that obvious choices are Columbia, where he was an undergraduate political science major, and Harvard, where he graduated from law school. It was also said that there’s a possibility that he could teach at University of Chicago, where he taught previously.
Meanwhile, there has been a number of career paths and projects that are predicted to be undertaken by the First Lady after the Obamas leave the White House. The Washington Post reported that Michelle Obama is working on her memoir, while her longtime aide, Melissa Winter, thinks that she could have a future as a children’s book author.
The Telegraph reports that it’s unlikely that she will return to her old job as Michelle Obama is a lawyer by profession. However, there is the possibility that she will still make healthy eating and exercise a focus and is expected to continue her “Let’s Move” initiative. Moreover, it was speculated that she will continue to be a strong advocate for higher education, as seen in her “Let Girls Learn” campaign.
She is predicted to go on the speaking circuit, with Vanity Fair projecting that Mrs. Obama could earn as much as $100,000 per public speaking engagement. It was also speculated that she could start her own fashion line.
As to where the Obamas will live, it was reported that the couple will continue to live in Washington, D.C. until their youngest daughter, Sasha, finishes high school. There has been a clamor for the First Lady to run as President in 2020. However, back in November, she made it very clear that she won’t be running for the highest office in the land.
