Sex Toy Industry Sees Sales Spike With Fifty Shades Series

The "Fifty Shades of Grey" series is not only a bestseller in bookstores, it is not only a hit at the box office, but it is also a hot topic in the sex toy industry. Lovehoney, an online sex toy shop, sees its sales rising due to the erotic saga starring Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.

Lovehoney is an online sex toy shop founded and run by Richard Longhurst and Neal Slateford. According to an article written by the Guardian, the website saw its online sales shoot up 30 percent last year, due in part to the success of its licensed "Fifty Shades of Grey" merchandise.

It also had a reported 68 percent increase in profits in March of 2016 which resulted in a Queen's Award for Enterprise. Its best-selling product was the Silver Bullet vibrator.

Its other successful product lines include its licensed deal with "Fifty Shades" author EL James. Watch the products in the video below.

The sex toy industry in London is pulsating and anticipating a sales boost in light of this month's Valentine's Day, which coincides with the release of "Fifty Shades Darker" in cinemas, writes the Guardian.

Slateford stated that unlike other sex toy shops such as rival Ann Summers, Lovehoney is less naughty and more normal and focused on the couple. According to the Guardian, it is expected to be worth £24 billion globally in three years.

As stated on its official website, Lovehoney has been awarded many titles such as the Best Online Adult Retailer, Best Customer Service Award, as well as Internet Retailing Award 2013. It was founded in 2002 and is the largest online sex retailer in the United Kingdom.
