Remote job opportunities might be decreasing as companies now require in-office mandates, but you can do many side gigs from home to earn extra money, with some paying as much as $500 per hour.

More Americans are trying freelancing, either as a part-time gig or a full-time job. In 2023, the number of freelancers in the U.S. has reached a record high, rising to 64 million people, which is 38% of the workforce, up from 60 million the previous year, as reported by Upwork research.

According to Yoav Hornung, head of verticals and innovation at Fiverr, businesses use freelancers more often to save on headcount and office space, CNBC Make It reports. But Hornung notes that the services businesses seek from independent contractors are constantly evolving. For instance, Fiverr has noticed a rise in demand for AI professionals like video editors and prompt engineers in recent months who can assist businesses in utilizing AI technologies to improve efficiency and profitability.

Aside from AI services, here are three highly sought-after freelance services for 2024, per Fiverr. Professionals on the platform charge over $100 per project, all of which can be completed from home.

Video Editing

Video editors handle post-production tasks, compiling raw footage into final products using various software applications. Recently, there has been significant demand for two types of video editing, says Hornung: AI video editing and social media video editing.

From January to July 2023, searches for AI video editors surged by over 625% on Fiverr. These professionals use AI to personalize video backgrounds, create voice-overs, and improve audio and visual elements, among other tasks.

According to Hornung, short-form content editing is also highly in demand and driven by the popularity of Reels, Shorts, and TikTok, which usually charges a minimum of $100 per project.

Social Media Management and Content Creation

Social media managers and specialists create, modify, and advertise content on various platforms, interact, and expand clients' or organizations' audiences, as a robust online presence is extremely important for brands and businesses, especially with the growing number of people, particularly younger consumers, who shop on social media platforms.

One skill that will be particularly valuable for social media managers in 2024 is the capacity to produce authentic and sincere content for clients, as more consumers seek authenticity and transparency from the brands they support. Social media managers and specialists typically charge a minimum of $150 per project.

Mobile App Development

Mobile app developers are software engineers who design apps for smartphones, tablets, and computers and often collaborate with graphic designers and data scientists.

Hornung notes that searches for "app development" on Fiverr have steadily risen since the beginning of 2023. This shows that more brands are embracing mobile-first approaches to accommodate consumers' increasing inclination to engage with businesses via their phones rather than computers or in person. Mobile app developers usually charge a minimum of $500 per project.
