Driver Confirmed Dead in US Capitol Shooting

A driver who seems to have attempted to ram her car through the White House security barriers had to be shot, and was eventually killed by police outside the U.S Capitol last Thursday. This was the statement that law officials gave.

There were also two police officers, one from the U.S Capitol police and another from the secret service who sustained injuries due to the car crashes that occurred in the incident. Both policemen are in good and stable condition. A 1 year old child, who was reported to be in the car with the woman is also in good condition. The child was taken into protective custody.

The police chief of the District of Columbia has stated that the incident appeared to be  "in any way an accident". There were attempts to breach two security perimeters, one at the Capitol and the other at the White House.

The car involved in the incident was a black sedan with Connecticut license plates. It first tried to enter the White House by hitting a post that was part of the building's security perimeters. Officers confronted the car, and after that, it tried to flee via Pennsylvania Avenue, with police officers in pursuit of it.

The driver was believed to be a woman in her thirties. She has been identified as Miriam Carey, 34 years old and was a dental hygienist from Stamford. After a failed first attempt, Carey backed up into a police car at a traffic circle right by Capitol Hill. She came to a stop by the Supreme Court building. It was by this area where the driver was shot and killed.

A number of lawmakers and civilians were present to witness the incident. Many remarked that "it sounded like fireworks", referring to the gun shots.
