Mysterious abducted girl "Maria" was non-legally adopted

Despite the incredible outbreak of global commentaries and support a little girl who was found living in Greece with her alleged abductors, officials in Greece have no information regarding the identity of the child.

According to the lawyer defending the Romani's gypsy couple that takes care of "Maria", the 4-years-old child was given to the couple by her mother who reportedly was unable to sustain the girl.

On Monday, the couple appeared in court and were remanded into custody pending a trial after one of the couple's lawyers admitted that the adoption was "non-legal" but with the permission of the biological mother, who remains unattainable.

"They love her, an they took care as their own child," said Kostas Katsavos, one of the couple's lawyers.

As of Sunday, the charity group Smile of the Child is taking care of Maria.

"She is doing much better" spokesman for the group Panagiotis Pardalis said. "The girls was found in bad living conditions, poor hygiene."

The authorities suspect the couple could be lying since they were changing their story repeatedly and the girl didn't look at all like the allegedly parents.

Inside the house, police found birth certificates claiming the woman was mother of 10 children and the man was the father of four more.

"DNA tests will shoe that five of them belong to the man, but that there aren't conclusive results for the others," said Marietta Palavra, one of the attorneys defending the couple.

On Wednesday, police found Maria after they raided a gypsy camp in Greece.
