Toyota Motor must pay $3 million in a lawsuit claiming a defect that caused a Camry vehicle to suddenly accelerate killing one woman and leaving one injured in Oklahoma, Bloomberg reported.
According to an Oklahoma jury, the 2005 Camry driven by Jean Bookout, 76, accelerated out of control while she was trying to exit from a highway in September 2007. She wasn't able to stop the car leading to a inevitable crash, injuring her and killing her passenger, Barbara Schwarz, 70.
Hundreds of claims have been filed against Toyota all along the United States, contending that the vehicles speed out of control suddenly.
Toyota denied there were any flaws in the Toyota Camry's electronic throttle-control system. The Oklahoma City state court jury rejected Toyota's defense today.
