Breast Feeding Woman Charged with Contempt of Court

A Missouri Mom earned her own day in court when she showed up for Jury duty with her breast feeding son. The stay at home mother from Lee's Summit was charged with contempt by the lactose intolerant judge.,When she showed up with her baby boy, in hopes of getting sent home , the presiding judge Marco Rold, instead told her she could either use a breast pump when she went on breaks or bring a baby sitter and then breastfeed when she went on break.

While the milky mom claims these two options won't work because , while she could use a pump her son won't take a bottle and she is a stay at home mom because she doesn't have any other childcare options. She plans on bringing her baby with her when she shows back up to court for her own hearing

The court however stated when she appealed to coming into jury duty selection , she was told to have someone watch the child and the contempt was for disregarding this order and bringing the baby into court with her , and that she is not being penalized for breastfeeding.

One might assume new mothers would be given more of a break when it comes to reporting for jury duty, but that is only the case in twelve other states including Kansas, though at the time of the incident a senator from St. Joseph, is trying to work on allowances for new mothers when it comes to jury duty.

Judge Roldan has since gone on record as saying he is very protective of the jurors, since they are the foundation of our system. But having a wide pool of jurors means even choosing from breastfeeding mothers.

The Missouri Mom now faces a 500.00 fine, though from the outrage circulated online in regards to this it would not be surprising, if penalized at a women's' rights group would step up and pay the fine for her.Maria Guido, a blogger for Mommyish, has already given her support for the cause, stating that if the court is intent on bringing new mothers in then they should provie a daycare service.

There is no word on if the woman plans, to fight the state on this or counter sue as she claims it has been scary and stressful for her family. She doesn't feel this is right or fair when she sees her actions as just trying to do what is best for her children.
