A video showing two young women twerking on subway tracks has hit viral status with denizens of the Internet clicking the pair's brief clip. The two ladies can be seen dancing on the tracks in the 14-second video that was uploaded on Youtube.
Jarisa Fuentes, one of the dancers, commented that the stunt was made all in the name of fun and that they were cautious as they climbed down the tracks. She also notes that their twerking on subway tracks happened at 1 am on a Sunday morning at a D station in the Bronx. The verdict is still out as to just how safe it was filming a video, despite the late hour. Concern for their wellbeing is partially due to the fact that the pair was standing near the third rail, the main electrical power source of the subway. Fuentes insists, however, that they weren't close to the third rail at all.
Inspiration for the impromptu video came from another stunt Fuentes and her friends have seen on the Internet. This other subway exhibition featured people jumping from one platform to another, but due to Jarisa's self-proclaimed shortness they decided on twerking on subway tracks instead.
Twerking was popularized by singer and actress Miley Cyrus. The latest dance craze has moved people to create their own versions of the gyrating dance step, Fuentes' video being only one of hundreds. The singer is also famous for her daring "Wrecking Ball" video that has likewise inspired spoofs and questionable stunts. This action, unlike twerking, involves riding on a swinging ball tied to the end of a chain while naked. While Fuentes' stunt may have ended on a fun note, it could have easily gone a different way. Good thing they decided on twerking on subway tracks and not imitating Cyrus on a wrecking ball.
