Von Trapp Family Watches Carrie Underwood Perform in The Sound of Music Revival [VIDEO & REPORT]

The von Trapp family, the subject of the famed musical and film 'The Sound of Music,' went to watch Carrie Underwood who performed Maria Von Trapp, made famous by Mary Martin in its Broadway version and Julie Andrews in film, according to a report by the Associated Press.

The NBC's revival of The Sound of Music has once again made the von Trapps and their vacation lodge in Stowe, Vermont in demand.

However, one of the von Trapps, Francoise von Trapp, questioned the revival's casting. Francoise is the daughter Rupert, Maria von Trapp's stepson.

"For everyone who thought the whole thing was wonderful and that NBC did a spectacular job, I say maybe your expectations weren't high to begin with," Francoise wrote in a blogpost. "If they hoped to have created a new holiday classic, I think they missed their mark."

But unlike Francoise, there are two other von Trapps who were more cordial and diplomatic. Siblings Kristina von Trapp Frame, granddaughter of Maria von Trapp, and Sam von Trapp, executive vice president of the Trapp Family Lodge, called Underwood a beautiful singer.

"It is relevant and interesting to a new group of people, and that's the important thing," von Trapp Frame told the Associated Press. "The original movie is an inspiration to many people, and if it continues that inspiration, that is only a good thing."

According to Jennifer Vincent, the lodge' marketing director, the von Trapp family does not deny NBC's revival of the musical is helping their business. In fact, Vincent said that the lodge's website gets enormous traffic whenever 'The Sound of Music' starred by Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer airs on television.

The Sound of Music musical and movie are a fictionalized version of the life of Maria von Trapp. It tells the story of a 1930s Austrian governess who teaches her charges to sing and who later on falls in love with naval captain Georg von Trapp, her employer. The story is set before World War II.
