Shipwreck Concordia to be Towed by June

The shipwreck in the Italian coast, Costa Concordia will be move by June off Tuscany Island.

Italy's civil protection chief and Costa Crociere  officials  gave the schedule and a rundown of what's need for the ship to be refloated at a news conference Friday. Although, is still not clear where the ship will be towed to, but different Ports bid to have the ship.

Italian ports such as Genoa, Palermo, and Civitavecchia are bidding to take the ship and dismantle for scrap. Also, ports in Turkey, France, Britain, Norway, and Asian country like China also take part in the bidding. The port that will win the bid will be decided on March.

The ship had 4, 200 passengers on board, who were force to evacuate and jump into the sea after the ship hit a reef and capsized in the Mediterranean Sea. Not all passengers made it and 32 lost their lives.

The 11,400 ton ship was towed upright from its position, September last year that lasted 19 hours for operation. Over 1,000 concrete stacks and six underwater platforms keep the ship stable.

Franco Gabrielli, the person in charge for refloating the ship says that it will take 7 to 10 days for them to do the refloating. 15 tanks will be filled with water and emptied for the ship to be able to float.

Mr. Gabrielli said that the ship would spend time in a temporary port before heading to another destination for dismantling.

Michael Thamm, chief executive officer of Costa Cruise said that they can remove the ship within the month of June.

The operation will last before another summer tourists season gets into swing at Tuscan Island of Giglio,

The full operation is computed to reach €600million or $817 million.

Capt. Francesco Schettino is now on trial for manslaughter.
