Manny Pacquiao on Floyd Mayweather Fight: Pacman Not Desperate, Wants To Face “Money” For Boxing Fans’ Sake

Manny Pacquiao broke his silence on the continuous verbal attacks by Floyd Mayweather towards him, insisting that he is not desperate to get the super fight done soon due to his current financial situation.

"I'm not desperate to fight him just for the sake of money or material things. I'm not the one seeking this fight; rather it's the boxing fans all over the world," Pacquiao said in an interview with The Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Mayweather recently took a swipe at Pacquiao once again, saying that the Filipino boxing icon is chasing him like a mad dog to have the super fight arranged as soon as possible because Pacquiao needs help due to his tax woes both with the IRS and the Philippine Tax Commission.

When asked about the undefeated American's recent accusation, Pacquiao reiterated that his tax problems are already being fixed by his lawyers, adding that he will have enough money to settle it should there be any discrepancies in his tax records both outside and inside his home country.

"As to my tax problem, my lawyers are fixing it already," Pacquiao said. "I'm paying my taxes religiously. It is just a matter of reconciling our records with the tax agencies both here and abroad. Should there be any discrepancy, rest assured, I will settle it. I'm a lawmaker and I'm a law-abiding citizen."

Pacquiao then admitted that he really wants to face Mayweather soon, but not for his own good.

The 35-year-old pound-for-pound king stressed that both of them should set aside their personal egos just to give boxing fans what they are looking for.

Pacquiao insisted that he is willing to submit himself to stringent drug testing procedure and even expressed that he is willing to fight the reigning pound-for-pound king anytime and anywhere without getting any amount of money from the showdown.

"I have carved my own niche in the annals of boxing. There's no reason why I should be desperate to fight him. But since boxing fans worldwide are seeking and demanding a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight, I don't want to disappoint them," Pacquiao said.

And when asked to comment about Mayweather's recent announcement about his plan to end his boxing career after his last fight on September 2015, Pacquiao took a swipe at the flamboyant American.

"The public clamor for a Pacquiao-Mayweather bout is getting stronger. The only way he can avoid facing me in the ring is to retire from boxing," Pacquiao said. "Floyd, if you're a real man, fight me. Let's do it for the love of boxing and for the fans. Let's do it not for the sake of money. Let's make the boxing fans happy."
