Virgin Galactic price: Most of us dreams of becoming an astronaut at one point in our lives and even if we never did end up in astronaut school, our love for the stars and outer space is one thing that never disappears. But how much does it cost to fulfill a childhood dream exactly?

California-based enterprise The Spaceship Company has announced plans of introducing a private passenger-carrying service where anyone who can afford the ticket fee can register and travel with professional astronauts to space.

Since 2005, the company has started taking reservations for a seat in the Virgin Galactric, the price of which costs almost as much as four luxury cars.

The company's passenger spaceplane, SpaceShipTwo was officially introduced to the public at the Mojave Air and Space Port in California in December 7, 2009 but it's first powered test flight became successful only in April 29, 2013 after nearly three years of unpowered testing.

Virgin Galactic's price for a seat reservation have varied over the years, starting out at US$200,000 for a suborbital cruise, but rates have risen due to the enormous cost of development.

Virgin Galactic prices have become steep, perhaps owing to the fact that the passenger ship only fits eight people in total, two pilots and six passengers.

Virgin Galactic reportedly invested as much as US$400 million for the development of this one of a kind passenger spaceship, whose goal is to assist in NASA's Flight Opportunities Program and give people a chance at the astronaut experience.

A few celebrities and members of the elite have reportedly reserved a seat in one of the most luxurious cruise experiences in the world to date.

So how much does a roundtrip to outer space cost? Virgin Galactic's price for a ticket to the journey of a lifetime costs a whooping US$250,000.
