John Travolta is dead at 60. That's what a new report that is making rounds on the Internet claims. The famous Hollywood actor allegedly passed away this week and that fans echoed their sympathy to the family and friends of John Travolta after his supposed death. However, it was found out later on that the report was simply another one of those celebrity death hoaxes and that Travolta is perfectly fine as of late.
According to a report recently published by Media Mass, actor John Travolta has died. The report didn't state how the 'Saturday Night Fever' actor died, but it featured an "R.I.P. John Travolta" Facebook page that is allegedly getting much attention as of late.
The Facebook page, which was reportedly made to spread news about the actor's passing got a lot of 'likes' from fans who voiced out their sympathy to John Travolta's family and friends.
"At about 11 a.m. ET on Tuesday (February 18, 2014), our beloved actor John Travolta passed away. John Travolta was born on February 18, 1954 in Englewood. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page," the description of the "R.I.P. John Travolta" Facebook page reads.
The site also explained that as it turns out the claim that the 60-year-old actor died is in, itself, a hoax. Media Mass reports that there was a frenzy over John Travolta's death hoax on Twitter and other social media sites.
Nevertheless, it was also found out that Media Mass is a notorious site of false reports and celebrity death hoaxes. In its own 'About' page, the site revealed that it shouldn't be taken seriously by readers since it is basically intended to be a satire.
"The website mediamass.net is the medium of our satire to expose with humour, exaggeration and ridicule the contemporary mass production and mass consumption that we observe," a paragraph on its 'About' page reads.
"Also it will not only mock the producers (mainstream media, journalists) as it is common when questioning and criticizing mass media, but also the consumers as one cannot exist without the other. Sensationalism, lack of verification of information, ethics and standards issues are only symptoms of the actual social and economic order. This is particularly obvious when observing the role of social networking sites in spreading rumours."
However, despite its main intention of mocking mass media, many people couldn't help but feel bothered about most of its reports.
A post on the RingSideReport blatantly condemns an unnamed site that is spreading a false report about John Travolta's death. "Now, I know that some of you FOOLS think this is just good fun, but imagine if his family saw those headlines? They'd be devastated!"
Meanwhile, John Travolta has recently expressed his grief over his teenage son's death. He opened up about the death of his autistic son Jett four years ago saying that it's "the worst thing that's ever happened in my life," according to Daily Mail. Although this is quite heart-breaking for the actor, it is still a relief for his fans to know that he is still alive and is doing better now.
John Travolta joins a long list of celebrities who have been axed by circulating death hoaxes. Other stars included on the list of celebs and personalities who allegedly died in false reports are Will Smith, Vin Diesel, Carrie Justin Bieber, David Guetta, Celine Dion, and Jackie Chan.
