American Idol Top 13 Review: Meet This Year's Top 13

American Idol's top 13 announcement has brought more than a little surprise to viewers earlier this week.

Over the past two nights, 20 singers comprising of 10 guys and 10 girls battled it out in a epic showdown for America's vote.

The top 5 for each category have been guaranteed a place for next week's show, contending for the 2014 American Idol crown. And the top 10 will be joined by the judges' Wild Card picks.

First up is Malaya Watson who was the first one to go through to the next round..
Up next is Ben Briley who was the next name to be called out by host Ryan Seacrest. This guarantees a spot for singer, who has been voted by viewers to be kept in the competition once before.

Emily Piriz, who shocked American with her sensual performance, also got voted into the Top 13. Her presence is sure to be bring a little bit of spice into future episodes.

Alex Preston, one of the top favorites for this year's competition, is the next guy through.

They are joined by Jessica Meuse, who brings a country twist to American Idol 2014, and Deter Roberts, Alabama's representative.

Caleb Johnson, who came back to American Idol after two years since he first appeared in the show, also joins the Top 13. He's also another favorite for this year, coming back stronger than ever since 2012.

Majesty Rose was more than ecstatic after her name was called to join the top contenders for the competition, so much so that she "Happy!"

The 9th and 10th spots go to MK Nobiletteand Sam Woolf, who round up this year's favorites.

From the 10 remaining finalists, five were picked to sing for the three remaining spots in next week's show.

First up for the judges' choices is Jena Irene who channeled her inner rocker with her version of "Paint It Black."

Next up is Kirsten O'Connor whose rendition of "Unconditionally" by Katy Perry wasn't as good as it could be, according to the judges. However, they must have seen something in her that she'd earned spot No. 12 for next week's show.

CJ Harris' emotional rendition of Sam Cooke's "Bring It On Home To Me" impressed the judges, earning him a spot in the top 13.
