Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Fight Will Happen, Says Trainer Freddie Roach

Fight fans are still aching to see Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao go up against each other on top of the ring to prove who the better fighter is.

But while most boxing experts are already convinced that the super fight will not happen, world-renowned trainer Freddie Roach believes that Mayweather will eventually decide to face Pacquiao.

Roach said in a recent interview with On The Ropes Boxing Radio that Mayweather will be forced to face Pacquiao in one of his remaining fights in his contract with ShowTime because the reigning pound-for-pound king will have no other choice.

"Well the thing is they are running out of opponents and I think somewhere before the last fight in his contract, he's gonna have to cross over and fight Pacquiao," Roach said.

Roach is convinced that promotional companies Top Rank, Golden Boy Promotions, and Mayweather Promotions will eventually settle their differences just to make the super showdown happen. The veteran trainer is also convinced that HBO and ShowTime will find ways to make the potential record-breaking showdown possible.

"So you know, Top Rank, Showtime, Golden Boy, HBO and all that - the pool's getting smaller, so someone's gonna have to give in pretty soon because there are no opponents in the future," Roach said.

The Hall of Fame trainer, who is currently preparing Pacquiao for his upcoming rematch with Timothy Bradley on April 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, insisted that they are willing to face the reigning pound-for-pound king, saying that they are just waiting for Mayweather to finally decide to face the Filipino boxing icon.

Roach pointed out that both fighter's legacy will be questioned in the future if they don't end up facing each other, particularly Mayweather if he decides to retire undefeated without facing Pacquiao.

"You might get some people being skeptical about why they didn't fight but I think it will hurt Mayweather more than us because he's the one that's so proud of his undefeated record, but he didn't fight the best challenge and that's Pacquiao," Roach said.

Mayweather, who holds a perfect 43-0 record with 26 knockouts, is currently training for his next fight against Marcos Maidana on May 3rd in Las Vegas.
