Brazil will look to score their second-straight victory, but Mexico are also expected to go all out to keep their record unblemished when they collide on Tuesday at the Estadio Castelao in Fortaleza, Brazil.
Brazil scored a 3-1 win against Croatia in their opening match, but their victory was marred by poor officiating, particularly the controversial penalty awarded to the host in the 71st minute.
There were anxious moments for the hometown crowd early in the match when Marcelo had an own goal, but the young Brazilian squad bounced back to the delight of coach Luis Felipe Scolari, who got a huge boost from Neymar, who scored twice, and Oscar, who netted a goal in extra time.
"One of the things that we all wanted to see and had doubts about was over the resilience of this young group," Scolari said via Yahoo Sports UK. "Today we know we have evolved at least a bit. There's still a lot we need to improve to see if this group can take a punch and get it back together to make it to the end of a match with a win."
Mexico, on the other hand, is aware that they will be playing in front of a hostile crowd on Tuesday, but El Tri coach Miguel Herrera said that they are ready to face the tournament favorites.
"I believe that we have a team that could be world champions. We just have to convince them of that," Herrera said. "There are some Mexico fans that sell their houses, cars to be at the World Cup. We're going to give absolutely everything. We're ready to go out to try and win the game, it is a really important match."
Mexico will once again rely on the striking prowess of Oribe Peralta, who scored the winning goal during their 1-0 win against Cameroon in their tournament opener.
The Mexicans have been performing well against Brazil. The El Tri recently defeated the Brazilian side during the finals of the 2012 London Olympics, while also scoring a 4-3 win during the finals of the 1999 Confederations Cup.
