Jeremy Lin News & Update: ‘Linsanity’ Wants More Playing Time, Important Role With Los Angeles Lakers

Jeremy Lin will enter a new chapter of his NBA career after getting traded to the Los Angeles Lakers after spending the last two seasons with the Houston Rockets.

Lin made it no secret that he is excited to play for the Lakers next season, but the 25-year-old point guard is looking to play an important role in Los Angeles, while also adding that he wants more playing time next season.

"I wish my role could become bigger and more important, and I also wish I could get more playing time next year," Lin said in an interview with Want China Times.

Lin, who will be playing in the final year of his contract that pays him around $15 million next season, averaged 12.5 points to go along with 4.1 assists and 2.6 rebounds last season.

However, after starting all 82 regular season games in his first year in Houston during the 2012-13 NBA season, the former Harvard University standout took a backseat to Patrick Beverley last season. Lin only started in 33 of his 71 regular season games last season.

The Lakers recently waived Kendall Marshall, leaving the Lakers with three point guards in their roster - Lin, veteran Steve Nash, and rookie playmaker Jordan Clarkson.

Depending on Nash's health next season, Lin could become the team's starting point guard with the two-time Most Valuable Player serving as his backup, while Clarkson could also earn significant playing time after a strong showing in the 2014 NBA Las Vegas Summer League.

Clarkson, the 46th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, averaged 15.8 points and 5.0 rebounds. Most scouts are intrigued with Clarkson's potential to become the Lakers' main playmaker, creating speculations that Lin could just be a one-year rental for the Lakers.

Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak labeled Lin as a "solid player" in a statement after the trade with the Rockets, but Boston Globe's Garry Washburn recently reported that Los Angeles acquired Lin to create significant cap space next summer.

"Although the Lakers already acquired former Harvard standout Jeremy Lin and his $14 million salary for this upcoming season, it was only to create more space next summer. Bledsoe could have been the team's point guard of the future," Washburn wrote.
