NBA Trade Rumors 2014: Boston Celtics to Trade Rajon Rondo to Sacramento Kings for Ben McLemore, Derrick Williams?

The Boston Celtics and the Sacramento Kings are reportedly close to finalizing a trade that would send Rajon Rondo to Sactown before the 2014-15 NBA season starts.

Tyler Spence of Sports Talk reported on Monday that Celtics could send Rondo to the Kings in exchange for Ben McLemore and former second overall pick Derrick Williams, saying that the deal is 80 percent done.

"Source: Sacramento Kings/Boston Celtics deal now at "80 percent" to be completed before season. Deal includes McLemore, Williams for Rondo," Spence posted on his Twitter account.

The Kings have been and are continuously being linked to Rondo, who averaged 11.7 points to go along with 9.8 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game last season.

Acquiring Rondo will definitely boost the Kings' chances of making it into the playoffs next season. But according to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, the recent rumor about a potential deal between the Celtics and the Kings are not true with both teams denying that there are ongoing talks between them.

But while the purported Rondo-to-Kings trade is just a plain rumor at this point, Kyler is still convinced that the Celtics will eventually trade the 28-year-old point guard before next season's trade deadline.

Kyler pointed out that the Celtics have a tough decision to make because Rondo could become an unrestricted free agent next summer if they fail convince the former Kentucky standout to sign a new deal.

If Rondo continues to show reluctance to sign a new deal with the Celtics, Kyler reiterated that Boston will have no other choice, but to part ways with the eight-year veteran, who has spent his entire career with the franchise.

"Rondo is considered the top obtainable free agent in the 2015 free agent class and he is likely going to command a max level, or near max level contract," Kyler wrote. "It seem inevitable that Rondo is going to be traded, the question is what the return is going to be for Boston, especially when it's more likely than not that Rondo explores his options in July."
