As the college football realm was celebrating the heroism story of University of Southern California (USC) cornerback and NFL prospect Josh Shaw for rescuing his 7-year old nephew from drowning, USC announced that it had received calls with contradictory statements about the incident thus an investigation is taking place.
Last Monday, USC reportedly announced that Josh Shaw suffered high ankle sprains on both legs after jumping from a two-story balcony to rescue his drowning nephew during a family party in Palmdale, California, Saturday night.
Due to the heroic incident, Josh Shaw, a senior captain for the USC Trojans, was applauded on social media and made the nightly newscasts and was center and front of local newspapers. However, USC head coach Steve Sarkisian spoke on Tuesday morning that the school received some calls with contradictory statements against Josh Shaw's heroism.
USC head coach Steve Sarkisian said on a statement that Josh Shaw is a good person and he came to his team's officials to report what had occurred Saturday night. The coach also added that he and USC have no reason and no history for not believing Josh Shaw's tale of the incident.
As the media rushed to acquire information from the authorities, the Southeast Division of the LAPD began an investigation and released a statement saying that they have no record of Josh Shaw having a run in and the incident might not happen for there were no records of anything.
As of Tuesday, Josh Shaw was unavailable for the media. But had issued a statement on the USC's website Monday saying, "I would do it again for whatever kid it was, it did not have to be my nephew. My ankles really hurt, but I am lucky to be surrounded by the best trainers and doctors in the world. I am taking my rehab one day at a time, and I hope to be back on the field as soon as possible."
Josh Shaw is the USC Trojan's best cornerback and was chosen as the team captain on Saturday. Last season, he began all 14 games for the team and is anticipated to be out the next few weeks while recovering from his injuries.
And as for Josh Shaw's story about how he was injured, it is still unclear and the USC is on its investigation over contradictory statements. The media and the fans are waiting for the result of the investigation and whether or not Josh Shaw's tale of heroism factual.
