‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Beats ‘Captain America’ As The Highest Earning Film Of The Year

The Marvel sci-fi action-comedy film, "Guardians of the Galaxy" has beaten Marvel's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" after the film topped the Labor Day weekend box office and domestically became the highest earning movie of the year.

It's been a tumultuous month for Guardians of the Galaxy. Almost a month ago, movie critics were convinced that the movie was just minor film franchise with too ludicrous premise to succeed at the box office. However, Disney silenced those critics by reporting the movie to haul $94 million. The movie, "Guardians of the Galaxy" broke box office records with the largest August opening of all time.

On Friday, Guardians of the Galaxy outdid the US holiday weekend box office's first day adding another $3.8 million to become the highest earning movie of the year, collecting a total of $262.1 million in domestic box office.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" is a Marvel Comics-based American superhero film, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The movie is Marvel Cinematic Universe's tenth installment.

The highest earning movie of the year, "Guardians of the Galaxy" features some of Marvel's less popularly known superheroes and is directed by James Gunn, who wrote the screenplay with Nicole Perlman. The film's ensemble cast features Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, and Benicio del Toro.

On July 21, 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy premiered in Hollywood and was released in US theaters August 1 in 3D and IMAX 3D. The movie earned over $547 million globally thus becoming critically and financially successful Marvel franchise. Guardians of the Galaxy beat out the highly-popular superhero sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which was released in April and was tagged as the highest grossing movie of 2014. Due to the film's box office triumph, a sequel to the space-adventure blockbuster was announced and is scheduled to be released on July 28, 2017.

Guardians of the Galaxy showed no indications of slowing down. As of August 28, Guardians of the Galaxy earned $262.1 million in the US and $245.3 million internationally, thus becoming the fourteenth movie of 2014 to make over $300 million, which it did in 10 days.

Guardians of the Galaxy earned generally favorable reviews.  With the movie's success on the box office and being tagged as the highest earning film that has beaten Captain America; Guardians of the Galaxy simply proved that superhero movies can be fun. Now, fans are crazed for superhero films that definitely make them laugh.
