NFL News: New York Jets QB Michael Vick Throws In Support To Commissioner Roger Goodell

New York Jets quarterback Michael Vick expressed support to National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell, saying that there is no reason to ask for a change of leadership.

Goodell was highly criticized over the recent issues surrounding the NFL, including the domestic violence case involving Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson, but Vick believes that the commissioner is doing a great job.

"You have to give the man a chance, you have to him a chance, you have to give everybody a chance to get it right," said Vick via ESPN.

NFL fans and analysts criticized Goodell for his recent stance on big issues, particularly Rice's case. Goodell initially handed a two-game ban to Rice, which was deemed too soft by most fans, who expressed their disgust on different social networking websites.

"I think some situations are more complicated than others," Vick said. "You're not going to get it right all the time or the first time. These situations that are arising are situations that we've never dealt with before in the NFL -- from a PR standpoint, just from a situation standpoint."

When the new video showing how Rice knocked out his then-fiancée inside the elevator, Goodell and the NFL issued an indefinite suspension.

Analysts said that Goodell made the right move, but the embattled commissioner took criticisms again when reports revealed that he has seen the video before, an accusation that was denied by the league.

"It's kind of new to everybody," Vick said of the recent controversies. "That's why we're talking about it right now. It has to be dealt with. Nobody is perfect. Nobody is going to make the correct decisions right there and then on the spot when faced with all forms of adversity."

Vick was once suspended by Goodell indefinitely for his involvement in a dogfighting case. The 34-year-old missed the 2007 and 2008 seasons before being reinstated by Goodell and was allowed to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles where he spent five seasons before moving to the Jets during the offseason.
