Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez 5 Won’t Happen, Says Mexican Boxing Icon

Fans who are hoping for a fifth fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez should stop doing so as the Mexican boxing icon reiterated that he is not interested in facing his old rival again.

Marquez, who is still unsure about what the future holds for him, said in an interview that he will not face Pacquiao again after scoring a sixth-round knockout win in their fourth fight last year.

The Mexican boxing star pointed out that his win has already settled their rivalry and he won't take risk of having another bad decision erase the memory of his scintillating win against Pacquiao.

"We had a good win [in the fourth fight] and if we face him again we run risk of having a close fight and then the judges are going to favor him, so I don't see a lot of sense [in facing him again]," Marquez said via BoxingScene. "We won the first three, and we won the fourth. I think we already demonstrated what we intended to demonstrate."

The 41-year-old four-division world champion also added in the interview that he is still unsure about whether or not he will fight again next year. Marquez said that he has started training to gauge later this year or early next year if he will fight again or hang up his gloves for good.

"I'm starting to train to see how I feel physically. If we feel good we will make a decision by year's end on whether we'll fight in 2015," Marquez said. "The physical part is the important point, reflexes, movements, legs, because I don't like the idea of retiring with a loss. I would like to retire [in a bout against] a tough fighter and [winning a] fifth world title. If I feel good, then I'll tell you and possibly I'll have not one fight but two."

Nacho Beristain, Marquez's trainer, echoed the statement of his fighter, saying that he will not allow him to face Pacquiao again and they'd rather face Kell Brook next year.

"He will not fight Pacquiao. I don't want to see him in that fight," Beristain said. "Juan Manuel is resting, enjoying his sports cars but I think in a couple of weeks he'll be back. Next year, we are going to try for the English fighter who is welterweight champion [Brook], and then we'll win the title."
