MLB Trade Rumors 2015: Kansas City Royals Could Shop Alex Gordon, Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas

The Kansas City Royals came one win away from completing a surprising run by winning the 2014 World Series. While they had success this year, the Royals are reportedly facing tough decisions in the offseason.

Andy Martino of New York Daily News reported that the Royals might be forced to make moves in the offseason for financial reasons. And if the Royals do, Martino believes that the team will shop several players who played crucial role in their surprising run in the 2014 Major League Baseball playoffs.

"Alex Gordon, Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas have become identified with a magical year, but the team faces looming decisions and/or escalating salary on each player," Martino wrote. "The expectation within the industry is that they will at least listen to trade offers."

Martino quickly added, though, that the Marlins might decide to keep the three players. But if the Royals eventually decide to go into a different direction, Kansas City might consider shopping Gordon more actively than Hosmer and Moustakas, considering the fact that both New York teams - Yankees and Mets - might be interested.

"Gordon is the most interesting case, and the one who fits an opening for one of the New York teams," Martino said. "Once nearly a failed third base prospect, he has become one of the game's best left fielders, and a face of the Royals revival."

Sources indicated that the Royals will consider trading Gordon to the Mets for Rafael Montero and Daniel Murphy, but the Mets will likely hesitate to part ways with Montero, considering the fact that Gordon might just be a one-year rental for the team because he might decide to test free agency after next season.

"While Kansas City would likely see a package of, say, Rafael Montero and Daniel Murphy as fair value, Mets people would be reluctant to part with Montero for a rental," Martino wrote. "And if they did, Yoenis Cespedes would probably appeal to them more than Gordon."
