Amanda Knox Latest News: West Seattle Herald Hires Ex-Italian Prisoner As A Freelance Writer

Amanda Knox Latest News - After years of being the subject of intense media interest, Amanda Knox is now back with a new gig. Nine months after an Italian court convicted her with murder for the second time, West Seattle Herald hired the 27-year-old convicted murderer as a freelance writer.

After traveling to Italy to study writing, Amanda Knox is now a freelance journalist for a Seattle newspaper. Based on the latest news, People said the former American college student, who was convicted twice of the murder of her British roommate Meredith Kercher, was hired by West Seattle Herald.

Back in 2007, Amanda Knox traveled to Perugia, Italy to study creative writing. According to the latest news by The Daily Mail, The Herald's Web editor and associate publisher Patrick Robinson said Knox has been silently writing human interest stories and covering the local theatre scene for the past several months.

"We approached her originally to give her the opportunity of a normal life," Robinson said in The Daily Beast interview. "We simply asked her as we would ask anyone of that age and stage, if they would be interested in writing for us as a qualified writer of that scale and this level of journalism."

As said on the latest news, Amanda Knox wanted to write under a pen name at first, which the West Seattle Herald permitted her to do.

"That was purposely to give her the protection of that and to give her the opportunity. She showed us writing samples and they were good," Robinson added.

Amanda Knox is an American woman who was convicted with murder of Meredith Kercher in Italy along with her former boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito in 2007. She maintained her innocence and the case became the subject of intense media frenzy in the US. Her guilty verdict was widely seen as a case that was badly mishandled by the prosecution.

Before Amanda Knox returned to America after an appeal trial freed her and Sollecito in October 2011, she spent almost four years in an Italian prison.  In January 2014, Knox's acquittal was overturned and an Italian court once again found her guilty and re-sentenced her to 28 years of prison. On the latest news about her case, she has not been extradited by the US justice department and Italy's highest court is expected to review the case next year.

Since her dramatic legal tale, Amanda Knox has been keeping herself busy. She re-enrolled in University of Washington to finish her creative writing degree. She also wrote a memoir that came out last year.

Based on the latest news, Amanda Knox has written 10 articles as a freelance reporter. Her editor, Patrick Robinson also admired her for being a talented writer and a passionate contributor who is mostly interested in theatre.

"Amanda's a very bright, very capable, highly qualified writer," Knox's editor said. "She's certainly been through a lot and been very easy to work with and very interested and eager in doing stories."

Despite the negativity from the case that has tainted Amanda Knox's image, the West Seattle Herald still hired her as one of their freelance journalist. And though Knox works mostly at home and that her editor has never met her, Robinson insisted that Knox is not hiding.

"It doesn't matter what people say or think-the truth is that she's a West Seattle resident, she grew up here," Robinson stated. "Why not give her the opportunity to be an actual human being versus a celebrity? It's really about giving a young, talented writer an opportunity at a normal life."

As for the latest news, Amanda Knox's career at West Seattle Herald has been successful. Her editor has been getting positive response about her articles. And as for the murder charges, Robinson stressed the result of the case has nothing to do with the newspaper's relationship to Amanda Knox.
